In their first season of U15 Prep competition, Calgary International Hockey Academy (Calgary, AB) took down Edge School (Calgary, AB) for the U15 Prep Division I Championship.
The finals would commence with some early back and forth action with some heavy contact. Edge School would manage to record the first goal in this contest after Zachary Pomeroy’s point shot was deflected in off the body of Lachlan Kisio, his third goal in his past two games. Later in the frame, a glass issue would delay play. After resuming play, Edge would still take the lead out of the first period.
In the second, Bennett Pattison would etch Calgary IHA on to the scoresheet after his point shot carved its way through traffic on the powerplay. Six minutes later, Edge School star Brody Antignani would roof a backhander from an impossible angle, beating Alexandre Montembeault shortside to restore the Mountaineer’s advantage.
Edge School would generate a handful of opportunities early, but weren’t able to solve Montembeault after a much needed rest after stopping 16-shots in the middle frame. Calgary IHA would gain another powerplay chance after Edge School’s early spurt of action and nine-seconds after the puck dropped, Ryder Lefaivre would deflect home the game tying goal. 21-seconds later, a similar play would occur. This time Jase Morey would tip home Hansoul Kim’s point shot, sneaking just under the pad of Cohen Spencer to give Calgary IHA their first lead of the finals.
Edge School would amp up the pressure as the clock winded down, but once again Montembeault was there to save the day, making another handful of key saves to keep his team afloat. Calgary IHA would receive another powerplay late leading to Loic Lebel’s eventual insurance marker, wiring one past the glove hand of Spencer. Montembeault would stand tall in the final minutes of play, stopping all 10-shots from Edge in the final frame.
